Technology in the Classroom: Friend or Foe
D' Angelo, Jill M.; Woosley, Sherry Ann
Education, v127 n4 p462-471 Sum 2007
This study explores students' perceptions of the value that technology brings to the classroom. A survey administered to undergraduate students enrolled in criminal justice courses showed that the majority of students have been taught with PowerPoint and/or blackboard. The findings further suggest that students maintain the perception that modern teaching methods (PowerPoint, videos/programs) are effective in increasing their learning. Last, there may be differences in students' perceptions based on one's academic major. Overall, students seem to have mixed reactions to technology. Hence, instructors who wish to involve students may need to rethink how and why they are using technology. (Contains 1 table and 1 footnote.)
