You Are the Key: Communicate for Learning Effectiveness
Catt, Stephen; Miller, Donald; Schallenkamp, Ken
Education, v127 n3 p369-377 Spr 2007
Literature suggests a variety of opinions regarding what constitutes capable instructors. Rapport with students and methods of delivering content material are critical elements in learning. For these elements to be achieved successfully, effective instructors must demonstrate good communication skills. Furthermore, keeping students involved in the learning environment is an excellent approach to gain desired learning outcomes. Relevant strategies include using appropriate examples, gaining attention of learners, being prepared to instruct, involving professional practitioners, explaining grades to students, and seeking advice as well as suggestions from colleagues. In addition, pertinent "keys" for student learning are identified.
