The Influence of Maternal Employment on Students' Perceptions of the Parenting and Teaching Factors Related to Achievement.
Paulson, Sharon E.; Peterson, Kathleen A.
Early Child Development and Care, v135 p89-101 Aug 1997
Explored how fifth and sixth graders' perceptions of parenting, teaching, and school differed by maternal employment status. Found that self-competence of students with nonemployed mothers was associated with parents' achievement values; self-competence of students with employed mothers was associated with parents' school involvement. Children of employed mothers were more influenced by peers' achievement orientations than children of unemployed mothers. (Author)
