The Stability of Maternal Interpretation of Infant's Facial Expressions during Pre- and Postnatal Period and Its Relation to Prenatal Attachment.
Siddiqui, Anver; Eisemann, Martin; Hagglof, Bruno
Early Child Development and Care, v162 p41-50 Jun 2000
Projective methods were used to explore maternal perception and interpretation of infant's emotional expressions during the third trimester of pregnancy and 3 months postpartum. Results revealed that mothers interpreted infant emotions overwhelmingly in positive terms at both times; findings suggest consistency in maternal interpretation across assessments. Maternal perception was related to parity and prenatal attachment toward the unborn baby. (KB)
