The Development of Scientific Reasoning in Knowledge-Rich Contexts.
Schauble, Leona
Developmental Psychology, v32 n1 p102-19 Jan 1996
Investigated the development of scientific reasoning in the context of self-directed experimentation. Subjects were fifth and sixth graders and noncollege adults. Found that neither valid strategies nor correct beliefs alone was sufficient to guarantee success, suggesting that regarding experimentation either as domain-general induction or as domain-specific learning may oversimplify its complexity.
