Chronic Disease and Perceived Developmental Progression in Adolescence.
Seiffge-Krenke, Inge
Developmental Psychology, v34 n5 p1073-84 Sep 1998
Examined whether chronic illness causes delays in adolescents' perceived developmental status, using annually-completed questionnaires from insulin-dependent and healthy adolescents. Found that, in first year of study, diabetic adolescents reported delays in physical maturity and an independent lifestyle compared with healthy peers. Overall developmental progression perceived by chronically ill adolescents was impressive. (Author)
