Children's Interpersonal Behaviors and the Teacher-Child Relationship.
Birch, Sondra H.; Ladd, Gary W.
Developmental Psychology, v34 n5 p934-46 Sep 1998
Examined relations between kindergartners' behavioral orientations and features of kindergartners' subsequent relationship with first-grade teacher. Found that unique associations emerged between early antisocial behavior and less closeness; greater conflict and dependency; and asocial behavior and teacher-child dependency. Prosocial behavior was correlated with, but not uniquely related to, relationship features. Specific relationship features predicted changes in children's behavioral adjustment. (Author/KB)
