Audition and Visual Attention: The Developmental Trajectory in Deaf and Hearing Populations.
Smith, Linda B.; Quittner, Alexandra L.; Osberger, Mary Joe; Miyamoto, Richard
Developmental Psychology, v34 n5 p840-50 Sep 1998
Two experiments examined visual attention in 5- to 13-year olds who were hearing or deaf with or without cochlear implants. Findings indicated that visual selective attention changes occurred around 8 years for all groups, with deaf children without cochlear implants performing less well than others. Differences between deaf children with and without implants began prior to 8 years of age. (Author/KB)
