Predicting Boys' Social Acceptance and Aggression: The Role of Mother-Child Interactions and Boys' Beliefs about Peers.
MacKinnon-Lewis, Carol; Rabiner, David; Starnes, Rebecca
Developmental Psychology, v35 n3 p632-39 May 1999
Examined associations between 7- to 9-year-old boys' experiences with their mothers, beliefs about peers, and peer adjustment over two years. Found that boys' negative behavior with mothers was associated with more negative beliefs about peers and being more aggressive and less well-liked. Beliefs about peers predicted social acceptance and aggression change. Beliefs about peers changed in response to social experience. (Author)
