Parent and Child Expressed Affect and Children's Social Competence: Modeling Direct and Indirect Pathways.
Isley, Susan L.; O'Neil, Robin; Parke, Ross D.; Clatfelter, David
Developmental Psychology, v35 n2 p547-60 Mar 1999
Used latent variables path analysis to examine models linking parents' and kindergartners' expressed affect during parent-child play and children's social functioning with peers in kindergarten and first grade. Found that relations between parental positive affect and children's social competence were mediated by children's expressed positive affect. Parental negative affect was directly associated with children's negative social outcomes. (Author/KB)
