The Role of Proactive and Reactive Aggression in the Formation and Development of Boys' Friendships.
Poulin, Francois; Boivin, Michel
Developmental Psychology, v36 n2 p233-40 Mar 2000
Tested the hypothesis that friends are more similar in proactive aggression than in reactive aggression with 185 fourth- to sixth-grade boys and examined interpersonal processes that may account for this similarity. Suggested that proactively aggressive boys tended to select proactively aggressive peers as friends; however, mutual influence between stable friends did not appear to account for similarity.
