Do Birds of a Feather Flock Together? The Variable Bases for African American, Asian American, and European American Adolescents' Selection of Similar Friends.
Hamm, Jill V.
Developmental Psychology, v36 n2 p209-19 Mar 2000
Examined variability in adolescent-friend similarity in African American, Asian American, and European American adolescents. Found greatest similarity for substance use, modest for academic orientation, and low for ethnic identity. Found that compared with other groups, African Americans chose friends who were less similar in academic orientation or substance use but more similar in ethnic identity. (Author/KB)
