Age-Related Changes in Verbal and Nonverbal Memory during Early Childhood.
Simcock, Gabrielle; Hayne, Harlene
Developmental Psychology, v39 n5 p805-14 Sep 2003
Assessed age-related changes in 2- to 4-year olds' verbal and nonverbal memory for the same unique event. Found that children's performance on each memory measure increased as a function of age. Children with more advanced language skills reported more during the verbal interview and exhibited superior nonverbal memory relative to children with less advanced language skills. Verbal event recall lagged behind both nonverbal recall and general verbal skill. (Author/KB)
