In 2001, the Conference Board of the Mathematical Sciences (CBMS) published "The Mathematical Education of Teachers" (MET) outlining detailed recommendations for the instruction of future mathematics teachers. One focus of MET is that teachers need a thorough understanding of the mathematics covered at the level at which they are planning to teach. In light of the MET recommendations, this article describes a course that meets two important needs of middle and high school prospective teachers--exposure to technology and capstone experiences related to topics they will teach. A capstone course is taken near the end of a student's undergraduate career. The course ties together the concepts and skills learned in prior courses through the investigation of real world applications. Often a course of this nature also gives students the opportunity to develop their communication skills by writing papers and giving oral presentations. The course outlined in this article has these characteristics, and all course activities are connected to the content of middle and high school mathematics curricula and require the use of technology.
