The Space between Us: The Relevance of Relational Theories to Comparative and International Education. Presidential Address.
Ross, Heidi
Comparative Education Review, v46 n4 p407-32 Nov 2002
College students' bewildered reaction to September 11 demonstrates what's missing from their education: empathy and an ethic of care. Eleven genres of relational theories are examined; these theories of the "space between us" offer complex conceptualizations of democracy, globalization, connection, and difference. Deliberative examination and negotiation of the socially and historically constructed spaces between us are necessary to global education and offer hope of social justice. (SV)
