Examines the expansion of schooling in Argentina, 1960-91, focusing on the evolution of regional inequalities and their relationship to regional economic differences. Analysis of data on regional illiteracy rates, enrollment rates, and urbanization suggests that institutional dynamics are better predictors of early stages of educational expansion, while socioeconomic conditions strongly affect intermediate and advanced stages.
