Stratification in Academic Secondary Programs and Educational Inequality in Israel and the United States.
Ayalon, Hanna; Gamoran, Adam
Comparative Education Review, v44 n1 p54-80 Feb 2000
In Israel, secondary curriculum differentiation (more diverse course offerings) was related to greater course-taking diversity, student selection of higher-level courses, higher average achievement, and greater equality of achievement. In the United States, which does not have Israel's high-stakes examination system, diverse course offerings were not linked to course-taking diversity and resulted in greater inequality. (SV)
