McJunkin, Kyle Stewart
Community College Journal of Research and Practice, v29 n4 p329-334 Apr-May 2005
Since the 1990s, many community colleges have incorporated an awareness of globalization into their educational programs and mission statements. It is widely accepted that community college students, no less than their four-year counterparts, will need to be prepare for an increasingly interdependent world. Today, the term "globalization" continues to be a topic of interest among many academics and higher education practitioners. From the community college perspective, the question that continues to challenge these institutions is how to focus on local educational needs while also sustaining an international and global perspective. The following citations address this challenge by focusing on the larger role of community colleges in a global community. Specifically, this material addresses the ways that community colleges have attempted to internationalize their curriculum and campus communities. More generally, they also seek to highlight the benefits and opportunities that community colleges enjoy in being both local and global institutions of higher learning. For the community college administrator who is interested in globalization and international education, the following articles are an ideal starting point for further personalized research.
