Early Intervention Programs to Increase Persistence and Retention at Community Colleges. UCLA Community College Bibliography
McJunkin, Kyle S.
Community College Journal of Research and Practice, v29 n2 p163-167 Feb 2005
Student persistence and retention is an ongoing challenge at the community college level. There are a variety of factors that influence and determine a student's likelihood of remaining in school. The diverse nature of the community college student body presents unique challenges. For example, students represent wildly different economic, cultural, religious, and racial backgrounds. This reality, coupled with the fact that community college students often work fulltime, commute or support families, means that staying in schools presents students with challenges well beyond one's they face in class. The articles and reports in this bibliography represent a broad view of the theories, practices, and perspectives on early intervention programs. Through mentorship and retention programs, many community colleges approach this challenge with an eye toward meeting the specific needs of their diverse student body.
