The Strategy Selection-Construction Controversy II: Comparing Pre- and Experienced Teachers' Compliance-Gaining Message Constructions.
Plax, Timothy G.; And Others
Communication Education, v39 n2 p128-41 Apr 1990
Examines the functional equivalence of the constructionist and selectionist data collection methods for compliance-gaining research in the classroom by asking both experienced and prospective teachers to construct compliance-gaining messages. Reports that, when compared with data from the selectionist procedure, the construction approach is just as likely to elicit socially desirable prosocial messages. Contends that both approaches are potentially useful. (MG)
