Communication Confidence and Listening Competence: An Investigation of the Relationships of Willingness to Communicate, Communication Apprehension, and Receiver Apprehension to Comprehension of Content and Emotional Meaning in Spoken Messages.
Clark, Anthony J.
Communication Education, v38 n3 p237-48 Jul 1989
Investigates whether self-confidence--expressed both as willingness to communicate and lack of anxiety--is an indicator of overall listening competence. Finds communication confidence and listening comprehension positively related, but notes that students' ability to decipher emotional content tends to be inversely related to their expressed confidence.
