A survey of 2,500 applicants accepted at Boston College in 1977 is used to develop two statistical models of student decision making for college choice. The concept of family members assuming buying roles in various purchasing decisions is applied to parents and students in the college choice process. Students entering Kansas State University as freshmen in 1974 were tracked through nine consecutive semesters to learn about their graduation rate, migration between colleges of the university, retention patterns, and relationships among graduation and ACT scores and first semester grade point averages. A new machine records system designed for the McMaster University's Office of the Registrar is described. The new system uses data received from the Ontario Universities' Application Centre, as well as data received directly from applicants. Student financial aid programs have become significant elements in governmental aid to postsecondary education. The effect of the regulations stemming from the Education Amendments of 1976 and succeeding regulations will serve to increase an already heavy administrative burden in institutional management of student financial aid programs. Possible bias in admissions decisions on the basis of sex is analyzed. The methods of testing for bias and the results thereof for graduate academic programs at the University of California, Davis, are reported. Differences in the quality distribution, based on grade point average, between male and female applicants are incorporated. (MLW)

The extent to which selected perceptions, experiences, and values are associated with academic performance for a sample of Black students at a large, predominantly White university is examined in a study done at the University of Maryland. Two methods of estimating the predictive validity of college admissions tests are presented. The first is a multivariate extension of a method presented by Givner and Hynes.
