What Does It Mean To Be Number One in "U.S. News"? Are the "Best" Institutions in Undergraduate Teaching Really Different?
Bayer, Arthur A.; Sharpe, Noreen Radke
College Teaching, v47 n1 p29-32 Win 1999
To determine objectively the difference between "committed teaching" and "nonteaching" institutions as ranked in "U.S. News and World Report" ratings of colleges and universities, 1,519 institutions were surveyed concerning their selection of faculty, faculty evaluation during probationary period, evaluation for tenure or long-term contract, evaluation of tenured and contract faculty, and resource allocation. Results show few differences. (MSE)
