Using Small-Group Discussions in Science Lectures: A Study of Two Professors.
Windschitl, Mark
College Teaching, v47 n1 p23-27 Win 1999
Describes and evaluates a technique used in two science lecture courses (biochemistry and introductory meteorology), in which lectures were interspersed with frequent, brief discussions within spontaneously formed small groups. Some differences were found in the ways the two professors managed the technique, but both felt in-class participation improved significantly. Recommendations for future use of the approach are offered. (MSE)
