The Emergence of Kind Concepts: A Rejoinder to Needham and Baillargeon (2000).
Xu, Fei; Carey, Susan
Cognition, v74 n3 p285-301 Mar 14, 2000
Responds to Needham and Baillargeon's criticisms and offers an alternative resolution of the conflicting results between the laboratories regarding abilities of infants less than 12 months to use property/featural information for object individuation. Maintains that kind concepts are acquired as infants approach their first birthday and that greater information processing demands require infants to draw upon kind representations. (KB)
