Don't drink too much, download pirated files, light candles, or prop open doors. Warnings like those pervade the weighty work of admonition known as the student handbook. However, Allen J. Bova wonders, "Who ever reads that?" So Mr. Bova, director of risk management and insurance at Cornell University, tried to reach students with a video. This article discusses "Cornell QuickTour," an 18-minute video of mostly safety tips sent to incoming students over the summer. The video, which is also online, sets expectations not only for students, but for the university, too. Both the film and its Web site encourage students to seek help--counseling, academic advising--if they need it.
