In Tough Times, Some Colleges Find Conservative Management Pays Off.
McMillen, Liz; Nicklin, Julie L.
Chronicle of Higher Education, v38 n39 pA26-29 Jun 3 1992
The successful conservative administrative strategies of four private colleges (Claremont McKenna College, California; Connecticut College; Livingstone College, North Carolina; Northwestern University, Illinois) in a climate of widespread institutional cutbacks are described. They include investment, avoidance of administrative "bloat," tough fiscal policies, and simple budgeting principles. (MSE)
