Application of Total Quality Management (TQM), which stresses total staff commitment to "customer" satisfaction, is reported at increasing numbers of colleges and universities. A survey of 22 institutions found employees felt better about their jobs, students were happier, and communication was improved. Expansion of TQM into the academic arena is reported to be controversial. (DB)
