Coming Soon: The Bionic Man
Woodard, Colin
Chronicle of Higher Education, v53 n17 pA12 Dec 2006
This article describes the latest advancement in the development of prosthetic arms. Bionic researchers are making significant advances in creating more agile prosthetics that users can control via their own nervous system. The bionic arm, which is still under development, can not only execute complex, thought-controlled movements, but also can provide sensory feedback to the wearer. The bionic arm is a technology that promises to greatly improve the lives of people who have lost their limbs. A new generation of bionic arms are expected to be ready for clinical trials sometime next year.
