You Didn't Get Tenure: Part 2
Perlmutter, David D.
Chronicle of Higher Education, v54 n5 pC2 Sep 2007
Just because a professor has been denied tenure doesn't mean that he or she must exit academe. In this article, the author focuses on how to get a new job in higher education. He presents a set of steps designed to help academics choose appropriate positions for which to apply and brand themselves as attractive candidates. Important features to develop are: (1) A positive attitude; (2) A sense that while the tenure denial was regrettable, it has been left in the past; (3) Evidence that the candidate is already planning and producing for the future; and (4) A list of internal champions who can make the case that the candidate will prosper at the new institution.
