With nearly 45 percent of community-college presidents expected to retire by 2010, according to one estimate, and few administrators preparing to take their place, the development of new presidents has been one of the top priorities of the American Association of Community Colleges. At a workshop on "Thoughts and Clues for Aspiring Presidents," held just before the Association's annual meeting began this month, some speakers interested in developing community-college leadership offered advice to those in the presidential pipeline. This article presents the ten tips offered by these speakers.
