Managing IT from the Top Down
Chronicle of Higher Education, v53 n18 pB16 Jan 2007
This article presents an interview with Michael M. Crow, president of Arizona State University; Nathan O. Hatch, president of Wake Forest University; Philip E. Long, CIO at Yale University; and Bonnie Neas, deputy CIO and executive director of ConnectND. They share their views on issues and practices in information technology. Crow worries the lack of congruence between the speed with which technology is advancing and the speed with which academe is able to advance. Hatch added that since computer networks are ephemeral and constantly being attacked, it is a great challenge to have the open environment that the university needs, at the same time, security. Another major issue is that IT is a world of mystery for a president. So the relationship between the president and the CIO is critical.
