Chinese Education and Society, v47 n3 p111-112 May-Jun 2014
Medical humanistic quality is an indispensable quality that eligible doctors should possess, and medical humanism is strongly advocated and carried forward by contemporary medicine. These are commonly understood worldwide, and formed by reflection on medicine and medical education. Cultivation of medical humanism requires in-depth discussions of theoretical study, and should be further explored actively in practice, to establish feasible cultivation paths are established. This article is the result of more than ten years of investigation of the philosophy of humanistic medical education and practical education, in particular from Tianjin Medical University. It concludes that the cultivation of medical humanism in medical students should focus on aspects of "practice" and "transformation," strengthen top-level design and integration of coordination, build up the solid "Four in One" carrier and progressive media of "Classroom Teaching, Situational Education, University Culture, and Social Practice" based on the laws of physical and mental development of medical students and the four aspects of "knowledge, sentiment, meaning, and Action," in order to enhance the direction and effectiveness of humanistic medical education, and promote the true "transformation" from medical humanistic education to medical humanistic spirit of medical students. This should become "endogenous authority" they consciously follow and practice in their future clinical practice.
