Snap It up! Using Digital Photography in Early Childhood

The digital camera has many uses in an early learning environment. However, there are some prerequisites to implementing the use of digital photography. In this article, the author offers some categories of usage as well as some concrete ideas for implementation of digital photography. She discusses how photos can be used (1) to give children opportunities to build self-esteem; (2) to promote feelings of security; (3) to promote community and a sense of belonging; (4) to promote positive classroom management; (5) to promote communication with parents; (6) to document growth and change; (7) to promote language; (8) to promote literacy; (9) to enhance other areas of the curriculum; (10) to communicate with staff; and (11) for interactive bulletin board activities.
