Creating an Interest in Learning Science
Kieff, Judith
Childhood Education, v81 n4 p220-G Sum 2005
This Classroom Idea-Sparker was submitted by Dorothy L. Haggerty, Associate Professor of Professional Practice, University of New Orleans. Too often, students are bored with science. Irrelevant facts, numerous definitions, and confusing diagrams clutter the student's mind. To help motivate students, teachers should, instead, choose fun, interesting, relevant, and current topics. This article describes one teacher's use of the film, "Finding Nemo" to teach elementary school children the concepts of marine science, life science and environmental science.
