Young Children Using Computers To Make Discoveries about Written Language.
Shilling, Wynne A.
Early Childhood Education Journal, v24 n4 p253-59 Sum 1997
Examined observed occurrences of written knowledge exchanges embedded in kindergartners' play interactions while at the computer. Found that computers, with and without speech-synthesized feedback, placed in an environment that fosters playful written language exploration, can contribute to learning about functions and features of print; however, speech-synthesized feedback may be most supportive when children exhibit metalinguistic awareness or cognitive clarity.
