Choosing Books for Reading: An Analysis of Three Types of Readers.
Kragler, Sherry
Journal of Research in Childhood Education, v14 n2 p133-41 Spr-Sum 2000
Examined book choices of below-average, average, and above-average readers in a fourth-grade literature-based reading program. Found that book selection criteria were mentioned at different frequencies with below-average readers, whose criteria included pictures and friends' recommendations. Word length, print size, and book length influenced determination of difficulty. Above- and below- average readers consistently chose books inappropriate for their reading levels. (Author/KB)
