Studies have berated American students for poor academic performance on standardized tests compared to their Asian and European counterparts. But education philosophy, pedagogical methodology, and learning objectives in the U.S. are simply different from those of these other countries. Rather than emphasizing rote memorization, American schools emphasize analysis and interpretation, and are much more egalitarian and pluralistic than these other systems. (EV)
