Hannibal, Mary Anne Zeitler; Vasiliev, Ren; Lin, Qiuyun
Early Childhood Education Journal, v30 n2 p81-86 Win 2002
This article advocates a literature-based instructional approach as a way of promoting geographic awareness in early childhood classrooms. Instruction focuses on basic geography concepts of location, place, human- environment interaction, movement, and region. Examples of children's picture books are included to show what early childhood teachers can do to make basic geographic concepts more concrete and understandable to young children. (KB)
