Promoting Resilience in an "At Risk" World.
Oddone, Angela
Childhood Education, v78 n5 p274-77 2002
Recognizing categorical models that reflect an "at risk" approach to serving children, this article advocates an expanded focus on the protective factors and assets that contribute to healthy development via the capacity for resilience. Addresses: (1) a systemic approach to enhancing resilience; (2) resiliency in concert with accountability; (3) effects of school violence; (4) mental health practices when prevention fails; and (5) uncovering how resiliency works.
