Homogeneity and Heterogeneity in Cultural Belief Systems.
Harwood, Robin L.; Scholmerich, Axel; Schulze, Pamela A.
New Directions for Child and Adolescent Development, n87 p41-57 Spr 2000
Examined intergroup and intragroup variations in Anglo and Puerto Rican mothers' beliefs regarding long-term socialization goals and in their organization of feeding, social play, teaching, and free play interactions. Found evidence of heterogeneity in cultural groups. In sub-communities defined by social class, cultural values were transformed in meaningful ways. Mothers constructed interactions in ways consistent with long-term socialization goals. (Author/KB)
