A Longitudinal Study of the Roots of Preschoolers' Conscience: Committed Compliance and Emerging Internalization.
Kochanska, Grazyna; And Others
Child Development, v66 n6 p1752-69 Dec 1995
Study assessed compliance and internalization for 99 preschoolers previously studied as toddlers. Compliance and internalization were assessed in multiple observational contexts using maternal reports. Found that committed and situational compliance had distinct developmental trajectories, and only committed compliance was associated with internalization. Committed--but not situational--compliance at toddler age predicted internalization at preschool age. (HTH)
