Children were interviewed about their conceptions of good listening, beliefs about appropriate actions for confused listeners, attributions of responsibility for a listener's confusion, reports of speakers' and listeners' feelings during communication breakdown, and ability to detect inconsistencies during a comprehension-monitoring task.
