Developmental Trends in Preschool Play as a Function of Classroom Program and Child Gender.
Johnson, James E.; Ershler, Joan
Child Development, v52 n3 p995-1004 Sep 1981
This 16-month longitudinal study examined effects of time, classroom program, and child gender on play behaviors of preschoolers attending a formal education program or a discovery program. Analysis revealed that dramatic interactive play and transformational behavior increased, while constructive play decreased. Boys in discovery classroom engaged in more dramatic interactive and less constructive parallel play than girls. (Author/MP)
