Children's Appraisal of Different Sources of Referential Communicative Inadequacies.
Lempers, Jacques D.; Elrod, Mimi Milner
Child Development, v54 n2 p509-15 Apr 1983
Nursery school children and kindergarteners served as listeners in five types of communicative conditions: adequate, message-dependent inadequate, situation-dependent inadequate, listener-dependent inadequate, and speaker-dependent inadequate. Results indicate that young children's appraisal skills as listeners in referential communications depend, among other things, on the specific source of the inadequacy. (Author/RH)
