Spontaneous Responses During Repeated Reading in Young Children From "At Risk" Backgrounds.
Fletcher, Kathryn L.; Jean-Francois, Beda
Early Child Development and Care, v146 p53-68 Jul 1998
Examined toddlers' spontaneous responses to six repeated readings; subjects were 2- to 3-year olds from at-risk backgrounds. Found that frequent children's responses included labeling pictures, commenting about the picture/story, and repeating what the reader said. Overall verbal activity and number of different responses increased across repeated readings. Found large individual differences in response frequencies. (Author/KB)
