Parental Psychological Control: Revisiting a Neglected Construct.
Barber, Brian K.
Child Development, v67 n6 p3296-3319 Dec 1996
Argues for focusing on parental psychological control of children in socialization studies. Describes three studies that tested the measurement of psychological control and its associations with adolescent behavior problems; results showed that parental psychological control is consistently predictive of youth internalized problems (depression) and sometimes of externalized problems (delinquency). In contrast, behavioral control is related primarily to externalized problems. (BC)
