Extended Visual Fixation in Young Infants: Look Distributions, Heart Rate Changes, and Attention.
Richards, John E.; Gibson, Theresa L.
Child Development, v68 n6 p1041-56 Dec 1997
Examined visual fixation in 3- to 6-month olds for fit to attentional inertia theory. Found that look duration toward extended audiovisual stimuli had a lognormal distribution. The conditional probability of looking away decreased when look duration increased. Heart rate deceleration accompanied look onset and stimulus changes occurring within looks. Heart rate returned to prestimulus level immediately prior to fixation offset. (Author)
