Children's Narrative Representations of Mothers: Their Development and Associations with Child and Mother Adaptation.
Oppenheim, David; And Others
Child Development, v68 n1 p127-38 Feb 1997
Interviewed 51 children ages 4 and 5, to obtain narrative representations of mothers--generating Positive, Negative, and Disciplinary representation composites. Found that children who had more Positive and Disciplinary representations and fewer Negative representations had fewer behavior problems and less psychological distress. Older children exhibited this pattern more often than younger ones, with moderate stability in representations. (DR)
