How Children and Adolescents Evaluate Gender and Racial Exclusion.
Killen, Melanie; Lee-Kim, Jennie; McGlothlin, Heidi; Stangor, Charles
Monographs of the Society for Research in Child Development, v67 n4 p1-119 2002
Assessed fourth, seventh, and tenth graders' social reasoning about exclusion in three social contexts: friendship, peer, and school. Found that there were significant patterns of reasoning about exclusion for the context, the target of exclusion, and the degree to which social influence, authority expectations, and cultural norms explained children's judgments. Also found significant gender, age, and participant ethnicity differences. (Author/KB)
